Remained Member of Punjab Legislative Assembly from Kapurthala Constituency from 2002 to 2004, 2012 to 2017, 2017 to 2022 & now again from 2022 onwards. Also remained Member of Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009 from Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency; Remained Minister for Power and Water Resources in the Government of Punjab from 16.03.2017 to 08.01.2018; again as Cabinet Minister from 26.09.2021 for the department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Horticulture, Employment Generation, Soil and Water Conservation till the conclusion of the term of 15th Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Elected again to 16th Punjab Assembly in February 2022 Elections, result of which was declared on 10.03.2022.

Remained Member of Committee on Public Accounts, Committee on Estimates and Committee on Government Assurances & Privileges Committee of Punjab Vidhan Sabha; Appointed Chairman of a Special Committee constituted by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to suggest measures to arrest depletion of ground water in the State. Appointed Chairman of a special committee known as Punjab State Agriculture Production Planning Committee, constituted by the Punjab Government.
